A college sophomore, Alison Gillum started dabbling in photography in 2005 by entering a few photos in the local fair. The hobby reached a higher and more serious level in 2007 by shooting high-school football with professional-grade equipment as her senior project at Del Oro High School. Today she continues taking photos of various subjects while her photos consistently win Best of Show and grace magazine covers, ads, and walls of her client's homes. Alison's photographs have been published in the Sacramento Bee, twice in the Loomis News, California Riding Magazine, three times in Thistle's Bagpipe magazine including two covers, two North Sails ads, one Dieball Sailing ad, one GPS Awning ad, one Penryn Oak Stables ad, and one Del Oro Game Day shirt. She hopes to get her AS in photography at Sierra College and pursue photography as a hobby while majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Alison's other primary hobbies include horse-back riding and racing sailboats. Alison started riding horses eleven years ago and currently owns three horses. Two horses are currently for sale (one TWH and one Appendix QH). Email Alison for more info.
Racing sailboats has become a hobby recently for Alison and she races with her dad and mom on their Thistle, Buddy (soon to return as Rebel Yell) #1010. During the six years sailing together, the trio have won over half of the regattas they sailed in and finished second overall in the other regattas. This year Alison sailed in her first Thistle National Championships and came back home with two trophies; Winner of Race One and Highest Placing Boat West of the Mississippi. The Gillums finished sixteenth overall out of eighty-four boats. Not including Nationals, the Gillums have won every regatta they sailed in this year.
